Pigeon C. Albicans (PiCA) DNA Test Kit Overview:
Les Pigeon Candida albicans (PiCA) Test ADN Kit is a molecular diagnostic tool designed to detect Candida albicans, the fungal pathogen responsible for pigeon thrush (also known as mycotic stomatitis or oral candidiasis). This disease frequently occurs in warm, humid climates and is characterized by the formation of white pseudomembranes and ulcers in the mouth, esophagus, and crop lining of birds, particularly pigeons.
Using a highly sensitive and specific real-time PCR fluorescent probe method, this kit allows for early, accurate detection of PiCA in samples such as oropharyngeal/cloacal swabs, blood, or tissue. This enables bird breeders, avian veterinarians, and pigeon enthusiasts to monitor and control infections effectively, reducing the spread and preventing complications.
Caractéristiques principales :

✅ Fast and precise quantitative results via qPCR technology
✅ Applicable to oropharyngeal swabs, cloacal swabs, fresh blood (EDTA), and tissue homogenates
✅ Includes positive and negative controls for accurate validation
Composants du kit :
PiCA Detection Reagent: 1150μL × 1 (50T) / ×2 (100T)
Positive Control: 100μL
Negative Control: 100μL
PCR tubes included (0.2mL)
Storage & Shelf Life:
Conserver à -20°C
Stable for at least 12 months
Sample Preparation Guidelines:
Écouvillons : Collect from oropharynx or cloaca using sterile swabs. Store at 2–8°C for <24h or at -20°C for longer periods.
Whole Blood: Use EDTA as an anticoagulant. Store at 2–8°C (up to 7 days) or -20°C (up to 3 months).
Tissue Samples: Use ≤100mg of fresh liver; homogenize in sterile water.
Test Workflow (Simplified):
Extract DNA using a validated kit (e.g., DP202).
Prepare PCR mix: 23μL reagent + 2μL sample/control = 25μL total.
Run qPCR with the following parameters:
50°C for 2 min (UNG treatment)
95°C for 5 min
40 cycles: 95°C for 10s, 60°C for 35s (FAM channel for detection)
Interprétation des résultats :
Ct ≤ 33 with an S-shaped curve: Positif
Ct 33–38: Suspect – re-test recommended
Ct ≥ 38 or no curve: Négatif
Précautions :
Maintain separate areas for sample prep, reagent handling, and PCR to avoid contamination.
Follow all biosafety and disinfection protocols.
